Make menu more obvious

It isn't always obvious much is available/how to navigate the horizontally scrolling menu at the bottom of the sidebar content. The arrows for scrolling through the menu sometimes overlay the menu items making them difficult to read: https://smile.d.pr/POy0Wc

Suggestions to improve this:

  • make the arrows more prominent/not overlaid on the menu items (perhaps changing the colour of the arrows or the background behind the arrows)
  • on desktop, change the ratio between the main video canvas and the sidebar so that the sidebar is wider, allowing text content in the sidebar to have more prominence and giving the menu at the bottom a bit more space.

I have some additional context for this based on some new conversations. The issue is largely on desktop. The menu is not in a 'standard' position for this device.

An idea that was floated was using a hamburger in the top right. When this is interacted with, a drop-down/off-canvsas menu could load, where all available options would be visible in one view.

Initially, I think that this could simply be in addition to the tabs at the bottom, and would appease more traditional users. @elliott it would be great to see some mock ups on this.

I can't drop a video in here unfortunately but you can find an amended clickable design here - https://preview.uxpin.com/24909953a4985365e18d618c89a7d409af1dcd13#/pages/148478318/simulate/no-panels
